Been So Long

Far too long.

I was reading through some cat blogs the other day, and I ran across some old friends.  Cole and Marmalade.  They're cat rock and roll stars now.

They made me think of this blog -- which I loved keeping.  But life caught up with me, and it brought some changes along the one.

One of them was the passing of my dear friend Pişi.

She probably passed away about nine months after this photo was taken, in Summer of 2015.

When you have a cat like Pişi, you mourn for awhile.
Her story is told earlier on this blog. Her Turkish roots,
her exploits.
She was eighteen when she left us,
and a fighter all the way to the end.
She rests in our backyard now.
All the feral cats like to hang out at her grave.
I like to think of it this way:
they know she was a jellicle cat,
a miracle cat,
a powerful soul.

It was probably her passing that silenced us here.

And life, of course.
Oh, life.

One Year Later . . . .

If by some odd chance
you have been wondering
whatever became
of two cats named
Pişi and Squeak,
well, the best answer to that question is:

they got a year older.

Furthermore, they both have taken up piano lessons:

As you might guess, Squeak is making more progress, as she is able to remain awake long enough
to complete her scales.

She is quite proud of herself.

Our dear Pişi has passed the sixteen year old mark,
we think.  Given your dubious origins,
we can't be sure exactly how old
the dear old girl
is.

She sleeps an awful lot.

But all the same, the two girls are well, and are delighted to see
their blog still lives.

They'd like to come visit you again.

And they will.

So hello dear world.

We'll be back soon. . . .

with love,

Catching Up With Squeak

Well, some folks think that I just lie around and do nothing

or keep our Big Two Legged One's Desk Chair warm
(she keeps telling me to get a job)

But actually, when I get a stringy thing in my sights,
the true tiger in me comes out.

Well, I should say,
the tiger kitten in me comes out:

You'll note, my "toy" is a little buddhist peace flag
that the BTLO got in the mail.
As one of her friends says,
I send out little peace notes whenever I send it flying,
which is why, I think, I like to play with it.

Happy September to all our friends
from Pişi and Squeak,
with a special call out to our
teacher friends returning to work!

On The Porch with Pişi and Squeak

What do you mean we can't be out here in the winter?

Happy sun to all our blogging kitty friends!

Pisi's addiction

Oh, my goodness
what's this?

'nip?  Oh, yummy!!!!

I'm lovin' it!

. . . and look, I think I found more!!

I think I'm wasted . . . . but as happy as a deaf cat can be!

The Cats of Ephesus

Well, we had promised about two weeks ago that our
Big Two Legged One would post
some of the cats she saw while traveling
in Turkey and Greece.

Here's the next installation
on that adventure:
The Cats of Ephesus:

. . . and now for a rare blog appearance from
the BTLO herself:

She asked this cat if it wanted to come home with her
(she does, after all, have experience bringing strays
from Turkey to the U.S.A. -
see Pişi's Story for details)

What do you think the cat had to say in reply?
(Put it in the comments section, if you dare!)

Origami Cats, with thanks to Gilad's Origami Page

This blog has been taken over by a human on vacation!

Thinking 'bout origami
and came upon this fabulous page
with tons of origami cats.
Here is a sample all of few.

These came from Gilad's Origami Page,
and there are many more there to be enjoyed!

This last one is,
reportedly,
the way Pişi has been feeling lately.

If she'll let me,
I'll post new photos of her
soon!

Cows are sacred in India, and so are cats

Our Big Two Legged One discovered this information
and thought she'd share it --

She has found, in her travels in India,
that cows are truly allowed free reign in this culture.
Here's one she found
having a zen moment
on top of a rather large pile
of what appears to be garbage:

She was wondering if their were any
mystical magical attributes
that were assigned to cats,
and upon searching, she found out
about the mythological figure of Sasti,
who is the goddess of married woman:

She is " the giver of children, assists at childbirth, and is the guardian of young children. She is represented as a golden-complexioned woman with a child in her arms, riding upon a cat; hence no Hindu woman would under any circumstances injure that animal, lest she should offend the goddess and be made to suffer for it."  (found on sacredtexts.com )

Of course, there are other cats in India
that you wouldn't want to mess with either --

Right now, the BTLO knows one thing for sure,
she can't wait to come home and give us some respect,
because she knows we're missing her a lot!

In The Flower Room

Hmmm, what's this?
An old orchid, trying to start a new shoot, I think.

And what's this:

A new orchid!
Isn't it pretty?
The Big Two Legged One bought it as a gift for a friend

and. . . what the --

Oh, it's Squeak.
Note how she's ripped up the edge of the BTLO's desk chair.

If she stays there,
everything is fine with me!

Have a great day, from
Pişi and Squeak

Behold The Bouncing Bunnies -- A Poem by Pişi and Squeak

Well,
if all goes well,
our dear, absent-minded
Big Two Legged One
will have her camera back by the weekend,
and then you'll get some more recent photos
of us.

In the meantime,
we, Pişi and Squeak,
wrote a poem
together.

"Behold The Bouncing Bunnies"

Behold the bouncing bunnies
gazelling in the grass
nibbling nubs of nothing
and bouncing bouncing bouncing
                             past.

Bunny here bunny there
in our dreams
and everywhere

Behold!
                           (Boing!)
Behold!
                             (Boing!)
Behold!
                               (Boing!)
Behold!
                               (Boing!)

Bunnies!

(Also, our BTLO has been really busy
with work and stuff she can't explain to us,
and we really want her to sit down
with us and help us write more poetry
and stuff.

We really hope all our friends out there in Blog-Land
are very happy and healthy!)
